If there is an exam for a course, the exam may be built-in to the course material. The types of questions and scoring method depends on the design of the course. When you have completed the course, your score will be reported in the Grade Book.
For some courses and some events, you may need to click a link in the Course Outline to access an exam that has been designed by your Instructor. These types of exams are available as an optional feature for your learning site.
The descriptions that follow apply only to the exams that you access through the Course Outline*.
Exam Types - you may see the following labels on the exam in the Course Outline:
· Exam: This is a regular exam. If you pass, you will not be automatically marked as Complete.
· Practice Exam: You can take a Practice Exam as many times as you wish and the score is not stored in the database. The Instructor will not be able to see your results.
· Test Out: If you pass a Test Out exam, you will be automatically marked as Completed in the course. A Test Out exam will be tied to the first lesson or module of the course.
· Pre Exam: The exam applies to courses with more than one lesson. If you pass a Pre Exam, you will be allowed to proceed to the next lesson in the course. A Pre Exam will ordinarily be tied to the first lesson in the course, although you may see a Pre Exam for any lesson.
· Post Exam: If you pass a Post Exam, you will be automatically marked as Completed. For a course, you must also have completed every other lesson or module and passed every other exam. The Post Exam will be the tied to the last lesson in the course. A Post Exam may also be associated with an event.
Question Types and Scoring: You may see Yes/No, True/False, Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blank, and Essay questions. If your exam does not include Essay questions, your score will be available immediately after you submit the exam. If you exam includes Essay questions, you will see the message "Exam submitted for evaluation." The Instructor must review and grade the Essay question manually. When the grading is completed, your score will appear in the Grade Book.
Other Exam Features: Your Instructor can design the exam to include a number of other features, including a time limit (a timer will appear in the top right corner of your exam page), a limit on the number of attempts allowed, and questions that may be shuffled or changed with every attempt at the exam. The Instructor can also make the exam available for a specified range of dates and times.
Quitting an Exam: If you Quit an exam, it will be counted as one attempt.
View Exam Results: When you submit the exam, you may see a button labeled View Exam Results. Click the button to view a full list of each question in the exam, how you answered the question, which questions you got right and wrong, the correct answer (if enabled by the Instructor), and feedback messages from the Instructor (if supplied by the Instructor).
If you see the View Exam Results button when you submit an exam, you can also go to the Grade Book to view your Exam Results for every attempt you have submitted for a given exam.
Exam Directions: When you click the link to the exam, an Exam Instructions page will appear. Be sure to check the information at the top of the page to see how many questions will be in the exam, the time allowed, the score required to pass, and the number of attempts allowed. The lower part of the Exam Instructions page explains the command buttons that appear in the exam (Quit, Save, Bookmark, Back, Next, and Submit.)
Bookmarking an exam: The Bookmark button will exit you from the exam and Save your answers. When you return to the exam, you will sent to the first page of the exam. Use the Next button to get back to the page where you left off.
The Save button: The Save button only saves the answers to your questions in the event you are away from your desk and your exam times out after a period of inactivity. The Save button DOES NOT save your answers if you Quit the exam or exit from the course. When you click Save, a message appears that says, "Exam Temporarily Saved."
