Assignments

To access:

1.     Open a course: Click My Learning / View Courses and Events in the navigation bar, then click the title of the course.

2.     Check the Course Outline on the left side of the page. If an Assignment has been created for a lesson, an Assignments link will appear beneath the lesson name.

3.     Click the Assignment link and the Assignment will appear in a pop-up window.

       If more than one Assignment has been created for the Lesson, the Title field at the top of the Assignment window will include a pull-down menu. Click the title of the Assignment from the pull-down menu.

1.     Click My Learning / Assignments in the top navigation bar.

2.     Click a course title from the Course pull-down menu.

3.     Click a lesson from the Lesson pull-down menu.

4.     The Assignments page appears.

       If no Assignment has been created for the lesson you have selected, the message No Data Found appears.

       If more than one Assignment has been created for the Lesson, the Title field at the top of the Assignment window will include a pull-down menu. Click the title of the Assignment from the pull-down menu.

About Assignments:

Your Instructor can create one or more Assignments for any lesson or module in a course. Assignments are not available for events.

The Grade Book does not include a specific grade for Assignments, although an Instructor may choose to modify the Overall Grade so that Assignments are reflected. Check with your Instructor on his or her grading policy.

The Assignments window includes the following headings:

       Title: The name of the assignment.

o       If a pull-down menu appears, there is more than one Assignment for the lesson. Click each selection in the pull-down menu to view each assignment.

       Description: The text of the Assignment as entered by your Instructor.

       Due Date (optional):

o       If the Instructor has given a Due Date for the Assignment, the date will appear beneath the Title and Description.

o       The Instructor can see the date and time of your submissions.

       Associated Files (optional):

o       Along with the text of the Assignment, the Instructor can include file attachments, such as a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, or podcasts.

o       If the Instructor has supplied any Associated Files, the name of the file appears beneath the Title and Description.

o       For a podcast, a podcast icon () appears beneath the Title and Description.

o       Click the name of the Associated File or the podcast icon to open the file.

       Submission:

o       Click the plus-sign (+) to expand the Submission area.

o       The text box includes a Text Editor feature that you can use to add styles and formatting to text. Roll your mouse over the buttons in the Tool Bar for button definitions. (Details on the Text Editor feature are in the Appendix section of Help.)

       Attach File (optional):

o       You can attach a file with your assignment response if you choose.

1.     Click the Browse button to the right of the he Attach File heading and select a file from your computer.

2.     Click the Attach File button to upload the file to LearningServer.

o       CAUTION: You must click the Attach File button in this Step in order for your Instructor to receive the file.

3.     Once uploaded, the name of the file you have selected will appear beside the heading Attached File.

o       If you wish to remove the attached file before submitting the Assignment, click the link labeled Remove Attached File.

       Submit: Click the Submit button to send your Assignment response (including any Attached Files) to the Instructor.

o       Once you click Submit, you will not be able to make changes to your submission (unless your Instructor requests further information and "unlocks" your submission - see below for details).

o       The program displays the following warning message:

Warning: Use extreme caution when submitting your response. When you click OK, you will be unable to add to or modify the information unless the Instructor requests more information. Do you want to proceed? (OK/Cancel)

        If you click OK, you will receive the confirmation message Submission successfully added at the top of the page.

        If you click Cancel, your Assignment response will be cleared (the text in the Text Editor box is removed, and any Attached Files are removed).

CAUTION: If you wish to make revisions to your Assignment response, make them before you click the Cancel button.

o       After you click Submit, you will receive the message Submission successfully added.

       Submission Status:

To view the status of your submission, open the Assignment (see To Access, above). One of the following messages will appear at the top of the pop-up window:

o       Submission is pending review by the Instructor.

o       The Instructor has not yet reviewed the assignment.

o       Check later to see if the Assignment has been reviewed or if the Instructor has requested more information from you.

o       The submission has been reviewed and accepted by the Instructor.

o       The Instructor has reviewed your submission and has not requested any further information from you.

o       You will not be able to make any changes to your submission. The Submit button is disabled (greyed-out).

o       The Instructor may have entered Comments for your submission. To check for comments, click the plus-sign (+) next to the Instructor Comments heading.

o       If you wish to review your submission, click the plus-sign (+) next to the Submission heading.

o       Instructor has requested further information. The submission has been unlocked for editing purposes.

o       The Instructor has reviewed your submission and has requested further information from you.

o       You are permitted to make changes to your submission and you can re-send it to the Instructor. The Submit button is enabled.

o       Click the plus-sign (+) next to the Instructor Comments heading to see your Instructor's comments.

o       Click the plus-sign (+) next to the Submission heading to open your original Submission. Make changes as needed to either the text in the Text Editor box or to any File Attachments that you included.

o       Click the Submit button to re-send the submission to the Instructor.

o       Check the Assignment later to see if the Instructor has reviewed and accepted your changes or if the Instructor has requested more information once again.

       If the Assignment is being reviewed, you will see the message: Submission is pending review by the Instructor.

       If the Assignment has been accepted you will see the message: The submission has been reviewed and accepted by the Instructor.

       If the Instructor has requested more information again, you will see the message: Instructor has requested further information. The submission has been unlocked for editing purposes.
